It's just that this is the flavour of the latest DLC, like Overlord was "vassal DLC".Īs for the big changes in the recent DLC, a "governing council" is obviously a very old real-life idea that can be found in other Paradox games too. Stepping back a bit, it's not that Stellaris is being permanently made into a leader-oriented game Stellaris will (hopefully) never become Crusader Kings in Space (let's leave that for people making games based on Dune and the like). (The canonical example of the genre of "leader-focused large-scale strategy game" seems to be the Heroes of Might and Magic series, which started in 1995, but even that was heavily inspired by earlier games.) It's maybe less common to have such a strong leader focus in a more sci-fi 4X, but it's a long-established norm in high fantasy strategy games. No one wants that lack of competition.Ĭould you spell out what exactly you think has been copied over? The concept of leaders/heroes in a 4X certainly didn't start with Amplitude. Make them and KEEP them fun and we'll do just that. I'm just grateful that these two video game companies are mature enough and smart enough to realize that their existence depends ENTIRELY on people like us to pay them for their games. I guess if there were millions or even billions of dollars to be had at the end of that legal dispute Amplitude and Paradox could slug it out in various courts around the world. I wouldn't have thousands of hours in it if it wasn't.Īs for "Good ideas are good ideas," it's too bad that fact holds no sway in the realm of Intellectual Property Rights. Maybe if they made it easier to do things like exploring the galaxy, researching anomalies, keep track of events and that stuff it might not be so bad.ĭon't get me wrong. There are other games that I want to play that are nowhere near as involved and as tedious as Stellaris is. And the time sink alone is a huge turnoff. I would need to hire a full crew of staff to keep track of it all. There is just too much to keep track of to have a prayer of winning. I need a break from the micromanagement nightmare that is Stellaris. I'm a bit burned out on playing the snot out of First Contact the last two months. I still haven't touched the new 3.8 content. I just thought it strange to see something so directly lifted straight out of another video game company's current title.
